Louie is exactly 5 months and this will be two weeks since we first picked him up. He is very nervous about being picked up or approaching you if you're standing. He is scared out of his mind to be put on his back in anyway as well. Even trying to get him to walk with a leash was hard he would just sit there and not move. Except all of this nervousness completely disappears the second he's around any of my other animals. We have a 2 year old husky and an older Pomeranian. He plays and runs around with them and isn't remotely afraid of even the husky and she is a lot bigger then them. (Also I always supervise this play time). Just wondering if he's just still new to everything, or if there is a reason why he's a lot more hesitant and skiddish around people but not animals? Thanks! :)

I would try to be less intimidating. I wouldn't put him on his back if it scared him that much. Basic obedience is always good. It often will help to build their confidence. He is still young, and unsure of himself it sounds like.

He is still unsure of things, plus there is no telling how he was treated before you got him. Give him time to adjust and take it slow, he will come around on his own time.

As with people, dogs all have different personalities. You should be able to build trust over time with him. Lots of encouragement in situations he is unsure of will help too.

Congratulations on getting Louie! It sounds like he fits in well with other dogs, maybe just needs time to adjust to new people!

HI, I would recommend you to try finding some treats he really really likes and feed them to distract this behavior, then use the treats to reward and enhance positive behavior.

THis is what i do with Lou as well, he also has some weird behaviors at times but I use treats to distract him and always reward good behaviors. This has helped alot.

Maybe lay him on his back and give him some treats, so he makes the positive connection.

PS: never reward negative behaviors

possible things to try
a] feed him by hand
b] sit on the floor and shower the other dogs with attention - he will soon see how much that they love it and trust you
c]take him out on a walk with one other dog - start to build that pack
d] give him time
these are a few hope you find something I know how bad one feels when they witness their dog/ family member go through these things.
Hoping you are enjoying the site and are able to find things - take care fingers and paws crossed that it all turns out okay
