Ollie is headed into the vet today for some xrays on his back. He's been progressively getting worse on his control of his back end. His legs flop out from under him on a regular basis and he walks funny sometimes. Poor baby already had a broken elbow at 4 months and had surgery. I'm hoping it's nothing to serious but I know that back issues run in this breed. I will keep everyone posted. If anyone has any words of advise I would love the wisdom. :)

Oh no!! No advice here but lots of well wishes. I hope it turns out to be minor! Good luck Ollie!

poor boy.... i so hope it is nothing serious... sending prayers and positive thoughts

I hope Ollie is okay, sounds like he could possibly have IVDD. Keep us updated. If it turns out to be IVDD I've been through it and may be able to suggest a few things.

Hoping for good answers for you and Ollie!

Ok we have ataix and multiple hemiverterba. He can't feel both his back feet fully. Doc says she doesn't know if it fixable or not. We see a specialist on Tuesday for an mri. If surgery can fix its 7k and a 4 month cage recovery.... [emoji22]

Sending lots of prayers to your baby! I hope there is a pill that can help and surgery will not be needed..... please keep us posted

Julie, I am so sorry. I hope the specialist visit goes well and you get better news. Thinking of you and Ollie.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. :( May I ask how old Ollie is? Do you have pet insurance that could possibly cover the cost? I hope the specialist has some good news for you and can give some insight as to what the prognosis will be.

Sending big hugs your way. So sorry.

Aw oh gosh... that's a tough diagnosis. Thinking of you! [emoji173]️

I am sorry to hear about Ollie. Many Frenchies have hemivertebrae. It is a great idea to consult with a neurologist. I have a feeling that Ollie will not be a surgical candidate, as there is not much to be done surgically regarding hemivertebrae. If he has a prolapsed or ruptured disc, then surgery is usually indicated. An MRI can only be done under anesthesia, and many neurologists move directly to surgery while the dog is still 'out'.
My Remy has a trainwreck of a spine, too. He takes Gabapentin (for nerve pain) and I give him montly Adequan injections (for arthritis pain). He takes glucosamine supplements. He has the same condition where he doesn't know where his back feet are, as the nerve signals don't make it all the way down.
Another thing that may benefit Ollie is physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. ; but first see what the neurologist has to say.
Wishing you and Ollie the very best.

:( Poor baby. I will be saying prayers for him. Please keep us updated.

Julie, I feel so bad for you and Ollie. Hopefully you will get better news at his next appointment.

Ollie is at the hospital now. They are doing the MRI now so we will have results later today. Save your pennies an MRI costs 2100 dollars out here! Yikes! Fingers crossed for good results.

Ok dr Barry called here's his preliminary judgement. Ollie has degenerative disks in both thoracic and lumbar regions of his spine which are causing compressor of the spinal cord which has caused atrophy of the spinal cavity. He does NOT feel surgery would make a significant improvement in his gate. Dr Barry is going to consult with the radiologist to confirm his thoughts. He will call again tomorrow evening to confirm his initial findings. So no jumping on or off furniture or running up or down stairs is a no no. He is ok to play at the parks and such but we need to monitor him and any rough play should be stopped as this could result in further disk issues. He dies have bulging disks at this time.

Oh Ollie... Though it does sound like his quality of life will still be pretty good. Here's hoping he can heal and go back to normal as soon as possible. Sending lots of good thoughts your way!!
