We have a gorgeous lil male french bulldog puppy only 11 months old. We have spent excess of $3000 of vet bills and he is still sick.

He has not eaten in 2 days and lost about 4-5 pounds in last week.

We have given poo samples, xray, scan iv drip, meds etc and he still is not right

Vets think allergy I think after this amount of money they should know and he should be better.

Symptoms:
Blood in his poo
regurgitates food(sometimes next day)
vomit spit like substance when he hasnt eaten in a day
no appetite
no energy
Will eat some treats but wont eat any proper food.
Tried a strict gastro food only didnt work
Currently hypo allergy food he wont eat it
He has been overnight on iv drip twice and it made him better for about 2 days then back to sickness again

Today he refused to walk, discoloration in pee and liquid poo, i tried to force feed him some food after i forced him to walk.. he got sick again.

We are running out of ideas and money.

Vet now wants to do a ultrasound for $500 which we cant afford at this time

Any help greatly appreciated, we love him so much but cant keep going like this

I am so sorry. Lots of questions to understand his condition: How long have you had him? Where did you get him? Have you contacted the breeder? When did this start? Has he had periods of wellness? Has he been tested for giardia (nasty intestinal parasite that usually takes many courses of medicine to rid). What are you feeding him? (I would make sure he gets a good food like Acana, Orijen, Fromm, etc.) He may need something bland until his digestive tract recovers. Have you tried giving him pedialyte to drink, even diluted?

Others will respond soon, I am sure.

Please keep us posted! Good luck! He is adorable.

have him 6-7 months . Got from a breeder and no other of his litter seem to be sick. Yes contacted breeder she reccomended trying another vet and stay to 1 kind of kibble. This will be 3rd time... I just brought him back to vet $120 he is staying overnight. Just changed from gastro food to hyper allergen but he hasnt eaten any of the hyper allergen food. not heard of pedialyte i will look into it. we gave him boiled rice and chicken and he still got sick

He could be allergic to something in the food or even rice

Try egg noodles and ground turkey

So sorry for you and your puppy, hope you get him back to health. Has the vet checked him for acid reflux? My now 1 year old boy was a very picky eater, had a terrible appetite and regurgitated frequently. After having his soft palate resected recently and taking omeprazole for 2 weeks he now has a healthy appetite, is not picky about food and rarely regurgitates. I believe he had bad acid reflux and it was actually painful for him to eat. I'm sure the soft palate surgery has helped but it seems to me that the acid reflux was resolved due to a few days of not eating after surgery but mostly the omeprazole. He was 11 months at the time of surgery like your boy. I would try giving him omeprazole in a soft treat an hour or so before you feed him a full meal. Goats milk is something he may like and it has a lot of protein and pro-biotics and shouldn't aggravate his stomach if that is the problem. You should probably look into soft palate reduction as well but that is something they can't diagnose until he is under sedation. I had my boy neutered earlier than I would have liked (11 months) because his poor eating/regurgitation was a problem but it gave the vet an opportunity to look down his throat. After just over a week or two of recovery he was eating everything I put in front of him, even kibble which he wouldn't eat before. Good luck to you!

Sometimes those prescription foods can make them sick. It happened to my parents cat, I told them to stop feeding that crap and to switch to raw and as soon as that happened, all the issues stopped.

Are you going to a vet that has knowledge about Frenchies?

As suggested, see if he’ll eat egg noodles and ground turkey.

So sorry for your struggle.

I concur with some that have responded to you. You have to get him eating and get sustenance in him.

First, boiled chicken and rice, maybe pumpkin.
Get him on a pre/probiotic - This is for good gut health (Flora)
You might try something like Gut Soothe from Adored Beast, this is specifically meant for a sensitive stomach.
Good vitamin like Soul Food or something similar.

Once you can get him regular on Chicken, Rice and Pumpkin; add a single source protein back into his diet.
I would stick with the changes for at least two weeks or more.
Something like Acana singles(Kibble). Or like others have stated, raw; but limit the proteins.

My second suggestions, is to ask what vaccinations or flea/tick/heartworm you might be using.
If you are reading dog naturally magazine articles; you know (or will know) how much these can really mess with your pup.

If you are giving this dog, flea, tick or heartworm; i would stop until you figure this out.
You are coming up on booster for all vaccinations in the next month...You need to do some reading!

A pup with any health issues should NEVER get vaccinations or any kind.

Egg noodles have flour and probably gluten -- Not really great for dogs

Also, yep most prescribed kibble is CRAP. Lots of Carbs, lots of grain and gluten.
Science Diet - Yuck

I will ask vet about acid reflux... omeprazole as a hunger stimulant. .?
I will try goats milk and will return science food and go raw once I get him back to me
Gut soothe sounds like a good idea also. What are good pro and pre biotics?
He has been taking a lot of medication as he has been sick a lot. Never stopped to think that could actually be the issue. These are great answers my first puppy. We always got dogs a lil older and in Ireland we have mostly outdoor doggies. I currently live in vancouver so most vets have knowledge of frenchies... he is in hospital now on it frip and an ultrasound planned for morning

Try giving him a good probiotic like Herbsmith Microflora Plus or Proviable DC if you can get them, if not some live unpreserved sauerkraut from refrigerator section of health food store or some supermarkets, or milk kefir or fresh green tripe. I would switch him to a better all life stages dog food , either dehydrated raw like Honest Kitchen Spruce , or frozen raw from your local pet shop, or Carna4 duck if you really want to stick with kibble.
I would try him empirically on fenbendazole 50 mg/kg once daily and metronidazole 25 mg/kg twice daily, both for 5 days, just in case he has giardiasis. If vet does prescribe this I would make sure to wash him daily and disinfect his environment daily.

Some great answers here...Omeprazole (brand name Prilosec) is an antacid sold over the counter here in the US. It helps reduce the amount of acid produced which gives tissues in the digestive system that may be irritated/inflamed due to the overproduction of acid a chance to heal. I learned about using this for dogs both here and on other internet resources. It was not prescribed by my vet but he agreed with me giving it a try as it has very few side effects. French Bulldogs are very susceptible to ailments of their digestive system due to the compromised structure of their throat.

Goats milk is something I gave my puppy when he refused to eat any solid food and fortunately he lapped it up and at least got some nutrition. As others have mentioned, Chicken & Rice (known as the "bland diet") is also good for pups with digestive issues. Several days/week on the bland diet has been known to help, many pet parents have been successful in clearing up digestive issues using this.

I will ask vet about acid reflux... omeprazole as a hunger stimulant. .?

Omeprazole is an stomach acid reducer. You can get it at the drug or grocery store. One brand name is Prilosec. Omeprazole is the generic name.

Please keep us posted. Do you have a good pet store near you that sells premium/specialty foods?

Follow up!!!!
Perry is doing great and is happy and healthy... He was allergic to chicken all the time and that was making him very ill

I would suggest to get a second opinion when you can from a different vet. I wish I would have done that sooner when my boy got sick.

Glad to hear he is doing good!! Finn had the same problem. We also found out it was the chicken. He has been eating Royal Canin Beauty canned, and his dry is Royal Canin special mini. This has worked well for him. We feed smaller portions and that helped also. Keep us posted
