Hello everyone,

We are from salmon arm BC, we have a 1 1/2 year old frenchie whom we have seen multiple vets this week who cannot give us a straight answer as to my Burt has a softball size swelling just below his mandible. It has changed size and position through the week it is not responding to antibiotics and the labs came back showing infection or abscess, they are thinking a blocked salivary gland but I just don’t understand why no one will drain it. They want to send us to a specialist but cannot get in for 10’days. He cannot wait that long, his poor little face is so swollen and getting to be in quite a bit of pain which we are trying to handle with painkiller/anti inflammatory. Anyone have any similar experiences?

We are going for a 3/4 opinion tomorrow morning, fingers crossed.

Poor guy! Cheli had swollen glands before and our et said to let it be .. it will retreat on its own, which it did after about a week. I have no insight, sorry, but I pray you get better answers so your boy can be out of pain

Welcome!

I haven’t seen that before.

Poor boy! Hopefully the next vet will just drain it and hopefully he starts feeling better.

Thank you, it is quite large honestly the size of a baseball. No one can give answers and it’s very frustrating.

Thank you for the well wishes ♥️

I'm so sorry; what a worry! (You frenchie is gorgeous.) I have no experience with this, but I've seen it on tv. I don't understand why you can't get a vet to drain it! Of course, it's going to be a little expensive, however, can you insist on having it done? Good luck. Please keep us posted.

Thank you! Finally a vet that will drain it this morning, there are multiple pockets seen on ultrasound. Hoping we can find an antibiotic that will do the trick and he can have some relief from it being drained.

My frenchie had something similar for the first time a month ago. They prescribed prednisone a steroid at low dose for swelling and it went down over the course of a few days. For her there was no infection or any pocket of fluid that could be drained. I was afraid it would come back when the steroid wore off and it did we are on her second round of steroids now but I’m searching for the cause and a better solution.

My girl is having this issue for the second time. Did your frenchie ever have a reoccurrence?

Our boy hasn’t had a recurrence but he did have the abscess drained. And two courses of antibiotics, it was not a salivary gland. I know there is the risk of it happening Aa again but I am just crossing my fingers as the poor boy is currently healing from a fractured femur. He’s had a rough go :(
