If they would have caught it sooner there would have been a higher chance the steroid would fix him.... the vet said it's too far gone but we are still trying. It depends at the end of that what his quality of life is we will have to decide at that point what to do.

I never heard of the disease and I'm so sorry. Did the vet put Banksy on prednisone now that the blood has been sent off? I can't see why he wouldn't start it just in case it helps. I hope Banksy is able to recover.

I'm sorry; they are a terrible worry. It may be a tooth. Ginger had an absessed tooth and the left side of her face was swollen pretty bad. The good thing is it's an easy fix (not that you want them to have a tooth pulled, but in the scheme of things...).

Bad news. Banksy has been in and out of the vets since I first made this post. His face was swollen and now his muscles have died and have been replaced with scar tissue. His jaw cannot open more than half a centimeter. We are feeding him and giving him water with a syringe. The vet has sent blood work off but is almost certain that it's an auto immune disease called masticatory muscle myositis. Has anyone heard of this before ? We are absolutley heart broken for our boy.

Oh, [MENTION=1276]hannah[/MENTION], I am so sorry; I just read the thread completely. Of course, I hope there is something that can be done. Can you get a second opinion with a specialist? Because of the gravity of the diagnosis, I would explore at least one other opinion just in case something else can be done. I am so sorry. God bless.
