Worried about Bambi/spinal issues (?)

Okay, I'll try to keep this brief but also give you some history. We have had Bambi now for almost four weeks. Since we have had her, I have noticed that she sits a lot, whenever she can. Our kitchen floor is laminate, so it is slippery, but I notice that her back legs don't seem to keep up with her front legs (do you notice that with your fullie?). Also, she doesn't lay down very much except in her crate (she prefers to sit). If she does happen to lay down like when she is chewing on her toy, I notice that she has never done the frog. Now my mind is going and I'm afraid she has spinal issues. From what I have gleaned, I think the breeder kept her in her crate almost all of the time. I am wondering that after three years of that, maybe her legs are messed up from laying so much. I called today and made an appointment for her with a new vet. I picked one of the larger clinics thinking that their vets might be more up on fullies. Ginger's vet is so nice, but he is semi retired and works by himself in a one-doctor practice. I don't know if he would know all the cutting edge things about fullies. Anyway, I am somewhat worried and anxious to find out more. Plus, Bambi is only 18.4 lbs. and I think she is too thin. She is very small, however, I think she could use at least another pound. Her waist is really small and I can see her ribs and feel her backbone. I am trying to add weight to her but it is a very slow process. I am so attached to her, I hope she is okay.

Id say it's better safe than sorry! It doesn't necessarily sound like spinal issues, maybe weak muscle tone.

Titan's vet today said he appears to have trouble walking because of his size he doesn't have much muscle behind him so he slides around. Sounds like a similar situation...

Definitely update and let us know what your vet says!

How old is Bambi? it is good you are taking her to get checked, it is better to be told you were being paranoid than find out it was something to be addressed.

sending positive thoughts... please keep us posted

It certainly wouldn't hurt to have a really good checkup with a knowledgeable vet. My Remy has spinal issues... some he was born with and some are age related. He was even in a cart for a short while. Slippery floors are his nemesis so we have rugs and dog beds that create walkways for him in those areas.
I am a huge fan of board-certified specialists. Remy's neurologist has given me much insight into his condition that my regular vet just could not do.
I hope that Bambi does not have any serious issues and I will be sending good thoughts for both of you!

I agree with the others, definitely get Bambi checked out. She might need to strengthen her legs & back. I really hope it's nothing more serious.

And yes, Wally slips when he's sitting on the kitchen floor. It's like he's in slow motion when he does it. Very cute. :)

Poor Bambi - I hope it is nothing serious and that she has just lived in a crate too long. Keep us posted after you haver her checked and I will thinking good thoughts for her (and you).

Well as others have said, get her checked out so you will know. I hope she is OK and just needs to build up her rear leg muscles.

Thanks, everyone - such wonderful support here. Bambi is three. I will let you know how we make out after her appointment on Saturday. As you say, I am hoping that her muscles just need to be strengthened/retrained. My friend stopped over on my lunch hour today to see her and she ran out the garage and down the driveway to greet her like the wind (so cute!!!). Of course, I was a very proud mommy. Wish we had blushy's vet!

Ask around for suggestions! Maybe ask groomers at the pet stores or the trainers, they may have some knowledge you wouldn't think of otherwise!

We wouldn't have known about this vet without my husbands sgt owning frenchies & suggesting her & Titan being sick so he was talked about at work!

:)

Again I hope it's nothing serious & just low muscle tone, hearing bad news is always scary so I'm crossing my fingers & toes for Bambi to have a clean bill of health! [emoji173]️
