I just noticed yesterday that Carrot broke her right dew claw. there was no blood ( that I saw) but it's bent to an unnatural angle and it's jagged where broken. It seems tender, but doesn't appear to be bothering her too much? Should I take her to the vet?

Attaching pictures. One of her left dew claw that's normal and one of her right that's broken

Ouch! If you can wrap till it heals or take to vet and have it clipped and wrapped

Buddy has broken dew claws twice. Take to vet to clip or strip down and might need antibiotics. They checked with buddy's that they hadn't fractured further up. X

Although I must add he a nightmare with vet so had to be sedated both times ! But that first time they could of just clipped it had he of let them near !

My dog just recently had accident and one of her regular claws almost came off. I took her to vet and he clipped it right off and gave her a shot of long acting penicillin and prescribed clavulin for 10 days, He also said to use Betadine dabbed on the spot. I'm only using the clavulin for 5 days though as she's fine.

Dew Claw nail is now clipped. Although someone wasn't happy about it. They gave her a shot of antibiotics and she has to keep the bandage on for five days...

Interesting how vets differ in their treatment. My vet said no bandage, dab betadine on the wound once daily, and make sure she doesn't lick it, use a collar if she does.

I am a little worried about leaving it on for five days. Shouldn't it get air? And the bandage has gotten wet a few times just due to dew in the grass, etc.

You can call vet to confirm, but I would take it off and dab with betadine on a cotton ball like I've been doing with my dog.
