Hi everyone,

Dexter had surgery today. He was neutered, had his nares done, and a lump removed from his head. Look at the poor wee guy! He's so sad.... He doesn't know what to do with himself, with both ends being sore!

The vet has never seen a lump like this before, so he's sending it off for investigations. He said it appeared to be like an abscess so we'll see what they say.

In the meantime, it's TLC all the way for my hairy baby.

Poor lil guy. So hard seeing them like that. Lots of TLC and extra belly rubs are definitely in order:)

Ohhhh, poor honey. Hopefully he will sleep through the worst of it and then be feeling much better.

Oh no! Poor lil guy. We were thinking of asking our vet if Banksy needs his nares done, and if so doing it at the same time as his neutering (so he only has to be put under once) but then we wondered if it would be too harsh of a recovery? Let me know how he does and how long it takes for him to be feeling back to normal again! Also keep us posted on the bump that's been sent away!

Looks like you have a lot of cuddle time in your upcoming future :) Hope he feels better soon :)

Thanks everyone. I slept beside him last night. He got a bit of rest on and off, but he's zonked out this morning. And I feel like a zombie haha!
hannah Will keep you posted for sure. Really want to hear about this lump. I'm hoping it's a one off and not something he's going to be bothered by again. Fingers crossed.

Awwww, poor little Dex!! I'm glad the surgeries went well and that it's nothing but good news with that lump.

Thanks! I hope so too!

WeeDex, you are an excellent mommy. I bet his lump is just a benign growth that won't come back. The worst is behind you now and I'm sure Dex is feeling much better than yesterday. Please keep us posted.

Just a quick update - Dexter is doing really good with his recovery. The first 24 hours home were tough, but after a couple of meals and a lot of sleep he really perked up. And now of course he thinks he's fine! Tough keeping him from wanting to jump up and run about, but I just watch him like a hawk 24/7 just now!

hannah I can honestly say I'm glad we got both done at the same time. I was so worried like you, but I think putting him under twice would worry me more. His recovery is fantastic! And I'm really pleased with his new nose!

The vet checked him over yesterday as his head lump area was quite swollen but he's happy with it. He said it was to be expected due to where they had to cut him but I've to keep an eye on it and he'll check it again next Friday.

Nothing back yet on the lump. Should be early next week.

I bought him a Comfy Cone which is a great help. He can sleep much better, and it folds back on itself so he can eat. So much better than the solid plastic one!

Thank you so much for the update! Soooo helpful to know this! I am on the same page as you... I feel it would be more stressful going under twice! One of my girlfriends just made a comment about maybe it being too much so it got me all worried. (I really do worry too much haha) But we will probably do both at the same time if he needs it. Thanks again for letting me know :) I am happy to hear that he is on the mend and doing well.

Aww what a sweetpea!

Thank you for updating us! I will continue to hope for good news on that lump! The soft cone is a great idea.

How's he doing?

He's doing ok thank you. His boy bits and his nose holes are fantastic. They look great and are healing up so well I'm really pleased.

His head wound is messy. I was speaking with the vet on the phone as it got really big - like half a golf ball - by Sunday. But was still clean and healing so he wasn't worried. Then by yesterday it was weeping. It's showing slight signs of infection, but I've to keep it clean with salt water just now. He doesn't want to give him more antibiotics right away as he's had so many recently. I'm going back in on Friday morning, unless it gets worse and I'll take him right in. Should also get the results back on what it is then too.

The good thing is that he's not unwell or showing signs of fever etc. In fact last night I was sitting on the floor holding his antler for him to chew on since his cone is in the way, and he just stopped chewing, gave me a funny look, and then just took off at full throttle! I was desperately chasing after him to get him to stop doing zoomies with 3 wounds healing, but he's a nightmare to catch! He thought playing chase was fun! I almost had a heart attack!!!

haha! That is definitely a good sign, even though he made you panic. :) Silly Dex!

Aw sweet boy! Zoomies are so fun! Sounds like my Titan, once he's zooming? Good luck. Every effort to stop him usually causes more chaos!

I can completely understand your panic though haha!

Let us know how the head incision is after the vet appt and what the results are on what it actually is! Keeping fingers crossed it was just a cyst or something!
