Buster loves to wade in Wallowa Lake and the various streams and rivers around here. He loves to play in his wading pool at home. But he hates baths! After I wrestled him in the tub he clamped his front legs on the edge of the tub so I couldn't get to his belly. I had to call my husband to pry his front legs off the tub so I could finish his bath. I'm going with 2 baths a year with weekly brushing.

oh dear :) one of the local pet shops here has just had an outside dog wash installed outside her shop it looks fab. I wanted to take the pups today but hubby said he isn't paying £8 he'd rather wrestle with them in a low down bath at home :w00t:

Oh Buster, silly dog!

Try bathing him in the pool that he likes. We did that with Lucy and it worked pretty well.

davidh it would be a cold water bath, outside instead of nice warm water inside; he couldn't clamp his front legs over the pool, though. I'll try it when it warms up some more. kitkatmummy25 it would cost $45 each to have my boys bathed here, so I saved $90 doing it myself!

yes about the same here to have them washed at the groomers would be about £25 each that's why I thought £8 was a bargain for this new doggy wash, lol . Hubby hates paying to get the car washed at £3!

I think I pay maybe $20 or so at Petsmart for a standard bath which includes ear cleaning and nail clipping. Sometimes I give Jax a bath myself at home and while he isn't thrilled about it, he doesn't clamp his legs over the tub. He just stands there all mad.

Love reading these stories. Gidget does not like a bath. Not too sure about Olivia and Wilson yet.

Bella hates baths too!!! I make the hubs bathe her, so she can be mad at him and not me!!!!

Our Wyatt hates to take a bath too. It takes two of us to do it. Same thing....tries to think he can keep his front legs on the edge of the tub and then thinks he can crawl out of it. We however win the battle! It does make him mad but he sleeps really sound after the bath.

Valentina also hates them, always tries to jump out of the tub! I just had a training session that my local dog rescue runs and they mentioned trying treats in the bath like you would to get them use to anything new like a harness or brush or something. They said to slowly get them wet and treat after each time to make bath time a 'pleasant' experience. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds promising

Buster doesn't give a rip about treats when he is in a tense situation, so he ignores the treats and wants out of the tub fast. Our best bet is to go fast and get 'er done! I'm sure the slow, pleasant approach would work for some, hopefully you!

I am wondering how Pierce will be. In the last few days we have had him home, he is fascinated by water. He will even lay by his water bowl and put one leg in it. I have been debating bathing him now, at 8 weeks and trying the treat trick, just to see if we can have a positive start. Maybe I will feel brave enough this weekend. It is supposed to rain here tomorrow and I will see what he thinks about going to potty in the rain. That may give me a little clue.

I have a Frenchie puppy who LOVES water and loves baths, so Pierce could be like that. Hudson has always been fascinated by water. He doesn't like the rain much, though. Hudson will lay down in the bath tub water while I'm bathing him. Now that he's more mobile and coordinated, he actually jumps into the bathtub on his own!

Ollie hates baths too. I have a sink outside with a movable handle so it's easier on me and my back. He hates it, but it's better than the shower. It's warm water and he has a nice rub down when we are all done. Bathing him is SOOOO much easier then my Golden Retreivers in the past. Ollie is a dream. Short coat, small dog. Takes like 10 mins. I have a dremel too so we do his nails at home. He's pretty easy groomer. Thank goodness to since sometimes I have to bath him just to get his butt butt clean. That silly tail of his is a pain! But I love him so much I don't really mind cleaning him up daily. He's too cute!

Pierce had his first bath last weekend. He wasn't crazy about it, but really did quite well. His main issue was it wasn't over when HE was done. He loved it at first, but then he wanted OUT!

Buster does like his wading pool, and when he was little he would play with and in his water bowl, spilling it often, so I'm thinking his problem with baths is he doesn't have a choice and he can't hop in and out as he pleases!

My Lil girl hates them as well but she feels good and runs around being frisky when I'm done bathing her it's a fight all the time and not to mention my 2 frenchies gets baths twice a week. And I'll add to that I'm also an owner of a Dog Grooming business and you would think my female frenchie would be okay with them like my male is he has no problem taking a bath. But like wise you have to make that bath time pleasent and joyful for them don't show signs of stress or anger because Frenchies well all of you know they pick up on that.. Lol

Isabelle tries to lay down on her shoulder (the playing position) and I constantly think she's going to drown or soak her ears and I end up getting frantic. Needless to say her baths are usually 5 minutes tops, I get in, wash her, get out.

I need a utility sink so I'm not hunched over or kneeling in the tub.
