So I am new to the forum but thought I'd try it for some thoughts from other French bulldog owners-my almost 2 year old frenchie began shaking his head a few months ago-shaking for <3 seconds with each episode-sorta like if it's a wet dog and the dog is shaking out. We've been to the vet and diagnosed with ear infection, were treated for ear infection too, but shaking thing never really got fully better-less frequent but still daily multiple times. Frequently it happens after standing up or changing positions and sometimes when just standing-it's quick then over and he moves on. Sometimes he'll shake out his entire body. So we've been back to the vet and ears are clear and she suggested a food allergy? But began us on Benadryl do 7-10 days and if doesn't clear up to go on special food for 6-8 weeks to work on if allergic. No other behavior has changed too much. I'm just not so sure it's allergy, anyone ever seen this behavior?

Welcome...

what food is he on? Does he itch al all or luck paws?

Some shaking is normal so if it is once or twice a day i would not be too concerned , but if all thru the day then yes there is an issue of some type

His shaking his head could be more of a habit now. Buster was shaking his head last summer and the vet got a piece of cheat grass out of his ear! It took him a while to quit shaking his head, like months!

So, Dexter is currently doing this, and it's a reaction to duck. His ears are clear, but the protein has irritated his skin. So he's shaking his head a lot. So it definitely could be food related.

Also habit, as mentioned above. Some do seem to struggle to stop it one they start, so maybe try and distract him when he starts - put his attention on a toy or something he likes.

If his hair is coming out, or shedding, also check it's not actually going into his ears. Dexter's head hair likes to get down into his ears and that really bothers him. A good go over with his brush helps this.

I agree, if it's just a few time a day, I wouldn't worry about it.
