Advice needed

Since I came back from the specialist she isn’t eating or drinking. I don’t know what to do. She is so skinny and I believe she is dehydrating. I can’t really tell because she is so skinny. Her gums are pretty pale. Every time I give her water or food with a syringe it is a fight so I stop because I do not want to stress her out. I can’t take her to the vet again cause I am completely broke from all the vet visits I have had. She just like to hide all the time under tables and stairs. I just want to cry. I have done so much and nothing is working.

Have you tried the bone broth

I have tried pretty much everything. She seems like she wants to eat but every time she starts she suddenly goes in the pooping position. So I know she is associating food with her diarrhea. And that is why she is not wanting to eat. I don’t know what else I can do.

I’m trying to think of anything I can , but everything you have done is all I know. All I can say is keep trying even if it is canned food like you said she ate.

Call the specialist and ask if they can rush the results

For hydration you could try a Popsicle. Just avoid any with artificial sweeteners. I believe xylitol in particular is toxic to dogs.

I'd really try to see if she'd drink raw goat's milk.

So sorry you feel so helpless and the vet has been so little help. :(

I did go to pet supplies and bought the goats me with no luck. I bought some Nutri Cal from chewy and hopefully it arrives soon and hopefully this will help. I have noticed today her butt isn’t as red and swollen. She is walking a bit farther outside. I just can’t seem her to eat but a few pieces here and there. What’s weird is I have a water bowl outside for the dogs and she will go out there and drink it but the water inside I practically have to force her. She seems to be very picky. I can’t tell you guys how many different dog food and people food I have tried to get her to eat. I have never in my life had or have known a dog not to eat hamburger or chicken. I am at the point where I am just going to have to leave her food out and hopefully she will eat when she is hungry.

Maybe she's associating her inside food/water dishes with discomfort. Poor girl. :(

I'd still be wary of chicken.

Sorry to hear she wasn't interested in the raw goat's milk. Maybe if you put it in a bowl outside near her water.

Was there anything different about what she ate/didn't eat yesterday that could be the reason for the improvement? I suppose it could also be the meds. Regardless, I hope she continues to improve.

Update on Chloe
Good news is the baytril has cleared up her irritated bottom. Her test came back negative for giardia.

Now for the sad news
She kept stumbling today and falling when she tried to walk. She is down to 7lbs. She looks terrible. Nothing but skin and bones. She is staying the night at the vets to get IV fluids because she is severely dehydrated. If we can just get her strength back I think she is going to get better. I just keep hoping so hard for her to turn around.

I love all my dogs very much but for some reason this one seems so different. I am so attached to her. I don’t understand it.

I was hoping you would update us on Chloe but also hoping for better news. I'm glad she is showing some improvement but it saddens me to hear she is still struggling. I know this has been very stressful for you and that you have put forth a tremendous effort to help her. I will continue hoping and praying that she improves daily and becomes the happy, healthy Frenchie that both you and she deserves. Please keep us posted.

After all the care and attention you have given her, it makes perfect sense you have developed such a strong attachment.

Hoping the IV and positive prayers will restore her strength.

Sending positive thoughts and vibes. Hopefully the IV helps.

Any update? How is the IV helping?

I am so happy her bottom seems to have gotten a bit better but oh so sad like everyone else following this thread, that she is only 7 pounds and struggling. I feel horrible for you guys. I can't imagine how frustrated and plain old heartbroken you must be. I am hoping that the IV fluids help her. Is she still at the vet's office? We all know you are rightfully occupied with getting to the bottom of her health issues and eagerly await an update when you are able. Hang in there Chloe - you can do it!!

Somehow I missed this entire 5th page and did not see this update or the photos of your crew. They are all adorable. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

You have been doing so much more than a lot of people could or would be willing to do. Please don't fret. Chloe has a bunch of people on here pulling for her (and you). Hopefully today is the day she will wake up and want to eat and drink something.

Ok so when she had the IV fluids it ended up coming out in the night because her veins are so bad from the IV fluids so she ended up with sub q fluids. They wanted to keep her until Monday but I could not leave her there again. The main reason I did not want to leave her is because they closed at noon yesterday and they do not have someone there with her all the time. And second the cost. Just for the one night was 400. I am tapped out.
Good news is she is eating so far since she came home yesterday one can of the hills urgent care. I am just going to stick with that for now until I get her healthy again. The hard part is keeping her hydrated. She seems to have no interest in liquids of any kind. I am pushing 2 ounces water through a syringe every 3 hours which takes me about 45 minutes to get her to drink. She is getting stronger just very slowly. I am putting a little pumpkin in her food each time to hopefully slow gown the diarrhea. I know if I can just keep her hydrated and eating good she will turn around.
The one thing that I don’t understand is why the vets keep prescribing metronidazole when one of the side effects is diarrhea.
Anyway I talked with the breeder yesterday and was telling her all about this and as much as I really hate this if she does not turn around or make considerable progress we will unfortunately give her back. I so don’t want to do that at all but I can’t afford to keep taking her back and forth to the vet and I surely can’t continue to watch her like it has been any longer. I know you all must be disappointed in hearing this but I have done all that I can think of to help her. I am hoping that this week she does turn around and I won’t have to give her up.
Thank you all so much for your support I really do appreciate this very much. I will keep you all updated on her.

I asked them that yesterday and they said with her being so thin that they have trouble putting the needle where it needs to go but when she puts on a little bit of weight they will show me how to do it if need be. This is what makes me so angry because if they would have suggested that before she lost a lot of weight and got so dehydrated this probably would happen. I told them in the beginning that she wouldn’t drink a lot of water. I had no idea you could do sub q fluid at home until I read it online the other day.
