Hi all,

I apologize in advance for the graphic nature of this post...

Background story: I have a 1.5 year old frenchie and a 4 month old frenchie (who I got about 2.5 weeks ago). They were eating the same type of duck/lamb raw food about a week ago. As of now, one is eating lamb, the other is eating beef/bison. They get duck treats or frozen blueberries as occasional treats. My older one has allergies so their treats are very limited..

I let them both outside today and noticed their poop looked extremely off and strange to me. I attached photos to help you all understand. They both have very runny stools, that seem "mucusy" with a green tinge. I also noticed a few white specs in it.

I am wondering if anyone has any idea what could have led to this... I am praying it is not worms, my older guy is de-wormed regularly, and the most recent addition comes from a very reputable breeder and goes for his puppy check up this week - which I was planning on de-worming then.

Thoughts?

Can definitely be parasites...maybe giardia, which is common especially in puppies. I would take stool samples of both dogs to the vet and have them test it.

Definitely looks loose and maybe mucousy as well? I would have it checked.

Could only get a small sample from one of the pups, but just dropped it off at the vet. They will test it and let me know ASAP - if something shows up we will treat both dogs.

Thanks for the insight :)

Keep us posted!

My 1 year old bulldog just tested positive for giardia so both boys got treated. Jax has had giardia twice when he was younger.

UGH.... agree -- get the poo tested... green mucusy poo, probably is giardia.

keep us posted

Stool was tested, came back negative for everything, including Giardia. Vet tech mentioned that not every stool sample sheds the parasite, therefore if the "off" stool continues for both pups - the vet will likely de-worm etc just to be safe.

Luckily, the lil pup has an appt for vaccinations on Thursday, so I will continue to monitor the poop & chat with him then!

My 19 week old puppy just got over Giardia. In her case the cysts showed up in the typical fecal float test, but the vet mentioned another test, elisa, which tests for Giardia antigens. If the problem continues and remains a mystery it might be worth doing an elisa if your vet hasn't already.
